The Ste. Genevieve Dragons girls golf team opened their season strong with an exciting win at Farmington on September 2. Match medalist Eleanor McKlin led the way, shooting a 38.

On September 3, the Dragons competed at St. Pius where Gracie Ladd claimed first place with a total score of 95. Teammate Eleanor McKlin followed with a fifth-place finish, shooting 101.

The week wrapped up on September 4, when the Dragons fell short and finished in last place with just ½ a point. Individual match results were as follows:

  • Gracie Ladd & Eleanor McKlin – Loss, 1 Down (0 pts)

  • Allison Loudenback & Kennedi Fischer – Halved (½ pt)

  • Clara Carlson & Adalynn Venz – Loss, 4 & 3 (0 pts)

Coach’s Corner

Head Coach Mrs. McDaniel shared her goals for the 2025 season:

  • Team score of 182 (+34) in a 9-hole match

  • Team score of 376 (+88) in an 18-hole tournament

  • Qualify as a team for State

  • Earn the MSHSAA Academic Team Award with a 3.5 team GPA

Now that the team has several matches under its belt, Coach McDaniel says they are “cautiously optimistic about a good run at the district golf tournament.”

When asked about this year’s group of athletes, she praised their dedication:

“These girls are incredibly coachable. They ask great questions in practice and are eager to make changes and get better. After our matches this week, they got into the bus talking about what they want to work on at the next practice. They want to get better and are willing to put in the work it takes to improve. Additionally, they are an incredible group of young ladies who are encouraging and supportive of each other.” She also noted the progress from last season:

“Almost all my returning players have made improvements. Some of these improvements are more visible than others, but everyone has gotten better since last year. It’s easy to see who has been putting in the work all summer long, and it’s exciting to watch that hard work reap success on the course.”

Looking Ahead

The Dragons return to action Monday, September 8, when they host Farmington, Valle, and Sikeston. On Wednesday, September 10, SGHS will host the 5th Annual SGHS Girls Golf Tournament at home.
